A Toledo police officer on Wednesday afternoon shot a man who was walking down North Detroit Avenue with a gun, police said.

The fatal shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute during which the man s wife called police, officials said.

The man was shot after police confronted him on the street. When they approached him, he had one gun in his hand. Police said he drew a second gun and pointed it at officers.

Three officers fired shots at the man, who was transported to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He was described as being in his 40s.

The incident occurred shortly after 1 p.m. at North Detroit and East Crawford avenues.

At an afternoon press conference, police officials identified the dead man as Allen Cole, 39. They say shots were fired by Toledo Police Sgt. Keith Miller and officers Susan Surgo and Edward Gust.

There were nine shell casings found at the scene and police confirmed Mr. Cole was hit at least once but did not give information about which officer fired the fatal shot.
