Boy, grandma die after north Toledo fire

Maki Carter, 4, was pulled from a burning residence early Thursday and pronounced dead at the hospital.
A woman and her 4-year-old grandson died in a hospital early Thursday less than an hour after being hurt in a single-family house fire in North Toledo, authorities said.
Tamara Kynard, 44, of 3408 Maple St., was pronounced dead at 1:50 a.m. at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, where Maki Carter was pronounced dead at 1:56 a.m., according to Steve Kahle, a Lucas County coroner’s investigator.
Firefighters arrived about 1 a.m. at the Maple address and pulled the victims from the burning 1½-story wood frame house, where a man had jumped to safety from a second-floor window, Mr. Kahle said.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze and left the scene by 4:10 a.m.
Arson investigators were called to the scene, according to the Toledo Fire Department.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
What remained of the house was not demolished. Damage estimate was not available Thursday morning.
The Lucas County Auditor’s Web site lists Richard Ammons of Lambertville, Mich. as the owner of the house, which was built in 1916.
