2 men from West jailed after pot found in SUV

Men from California and Washington state face felony drug charges after the Ohio Highway Patrol seized 106 pounds of BC Bud marijuana.

Donald Shipley, 53, of Long Beach, Calif., and Robert Shipley, 30, of Vancouver, Wash., were charged with drug abuse and trafficking in drugs. They were in the Lucas County jail Tuesday night on $250,000 bonds set during a Maumee Municipal Court video hearing Tuesday.

Troopers stopped an eastbound sport utility vehicle for speeding on the Ohio Turnpike in Springfield Township Saturday. A drug-sniffing dog was used, and a subsequent search turned up six duffel bags containing vacuum-sealed packages of the drug — valued at more than $530,000 — and $3,073 in cash.

BC Bud marijuana, one of the most potent strains of cannabis, is usually cultivated in British Columbia.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday in Maumee Municipal Court.
