TEMPERANCE — The man who authorities said tried to break into a Bedford Township home Tuesday was actually dropping off keys for a car purchased by the homeowner.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s office was told by the homeowner that the home’s security system was activated at 1:11 p.m., two minutes after the surveillance camera captured the man’s image, Detective Jeff Pauli said.

The detective said the alarm inside the home didn’t go off until deputies were called to the scene and went inside after finding a door to the home unlocked.

The incident was first reported to the sheriff’s office as a breaking and entering, but through further investigation, detectives determined that the man never entered the home. The man, who was delivering an extra set of keys as a “middle man,” had permission to be at the home.
