A toddler had a close call early Thursday when someone in the street fired several shots at a North Toledo home where the 4-year-old was sleeping, authorities said.

About 5:15 a.m., Joseph Vardaman and 10 others, including the toddler and other family members, were sleeping when an unknown person fired four or five rounds at the home at 1900 block of North Michigan St. and fled, Toledo police said.

One of the rounds entered the house and barley missed the toddler. No one was injured, officers said.

The case remained under investigation.

A total of 27 people were shot in Toledo this month, one fatally, according to police.
