VAN WERT — a Rockford, Ohio, man lost control of his vehicle around 2:30 a.m. Sunday while southbound on Race Street near Central Avenue, first striking a utility pole, then a house.

Gabriel Spradlin, 26, crossed the C.F. & E. railroad tracks at such a high speed that the vehicle went airborne, crossed Central Avenue and veered off the left side of the road, an Ohio Highway Patrol report said.

Mr. Spradlin was wearing his seat belt, but was briefly trapped inside the vehicle, and had to be extricated by the Van Wert Fire and EMS personnel.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
