Toledo fire crews battle early morning blaze

The Toledo Fire Department battled its second consecutive blaze downtown this week.

Crews were called about 12:51 a.m. Friday to a fire in a 14-unit, two-story apartment building at 120 16th St. near Monroe Street.

The building was abandoned, according to the fire department.

No injuries were reported. Multiple companies were called to the scene but later released. 

The blaze raged for a several hours. Dispatchers said crews were finishing up at the scene around 7 a.m. Friday.

The cause is unknown but appears suspicious, firefighters said.

The Lucas County Auditor's Web site lists Toledo Catholic Bishop Leonard Blair as the owner of the building since January, 2007. The building dates back to 1892. It is legal practice to list the bishop's name on property owned by the diocese.
