Lab gives Monroe bomb evidence high priority

MONROE -- Evidence from the car bomb explosion that injured a Sylvania attorney and his two sons has been given high priority at a federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms laboratory in Washington, authorities said.

Special Agent Donald Dawkins of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives said he doesn’t know when the results will be made available, but has been assured the case is at the top of the lab’s list.

The bureau is assisting Monroe Police in the probe of the Sept. 20 car bombing of Erik Chappell’s car. Mr. Chappell, 42, was on the way to football practice with sons Grant, 13, and Cole, 11, in his Volvo station wagon on East Elm Avenue near I-75 in Monroe when the car exploded.

There have been no arrests.
