A woman and several children were left homeless when a fire of apparently accidental origin damaged a house Friday in central Toledo, authorities said.

The victims, whose names were not released, had escaped unhurt from 3024 North Detroit Ave. by the time fire crews arrived about 4:17 a.m. to extinguish the blaze, according to the Toledo fire department.

Arson investigators were not called to the two-story wood frame building, firefighters said. The American Red Cross assisted the family displaced by the fire.

The Lucas County Web site lists Richard Brown II as the owner of the house. It was built in 1897.
