Starting Friday, the Toledo Police Department will conduct a city-wide traffic enforcement blitz, scheduled to last until after Thanksgiving.

The blitz, which runs through Nov. 28, will be concentrated in areas around the city — including school zones — and areas with a high number of crashes.

The blitz is funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration through the Ohio Department of Criminal Justice Services.

The funding will allow the department to conduct blitzes periodically through September, 2012.

Wednesday and Thursday, the department worked a traffic blitz on I-75 between Alexis and Ottawa River roads. During the two-day special, 247 vehicles were stopped for speeding and aggressive driving, according to police.
