A Toledo man was shot in the chest about 7:20 p.m. Thursday in Central Toledo and another was arrested about 15 minutes later in connection with the shooting.
Steven Parker, 25, of Blum Street, told police he was walking west along Tecumseh Street between Miller and Hawley streets when a man in a passing car hailed him and asked for a light. He said he was shot when he walked up to the car, Toledo police Sgt. William Wauford said.
He turned the corner and walked a block north on Hawley to Nebraska Avenue, where he stopped at a carryout — and where police and paramedics found him.
The victim was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center. A hospital spokesman said there was no information about a patient by that name.
Police stopped a car in the 500 block of Arcadia Avenue that matched the description given by the victim.
The driver of the car, Tremayne Griffin, 21, of Putnam Street, was charged with felonious assault and taken to the Lucas County jail.
