Police search for robbery suspect in Monroe County

MONROE — An manhunt was under way in Monroe Township Monday after an armed man robbed a Sunoco gas station.

The man went into the gas station, 15522 S. Telegraph Rd., at about 5 a.m. and demanded the clerks hand over all of the money from the cash register, authorities said.

The suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash in hand.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police had set up a perimeter and searched for the suspect, although at about noon, the suspect was still at large.

Police describe the suspect as a white man, about 60 years old, with a gray stubble beard, approximately 5 feet, 8 inches to 5 feet, 9 inches, weighing about 200 to 215 pounds. The man was wearing black-rimmed sunglasses, a black or dark-colored hooded coat, a gray or black winter hat, and blue jeans.
