A Toledo woman accused of using a curling iron to hold up a central-city tax preparation firm has been arrested 13 days after the alleged holdup attempt, police said Saturday.

Sonja Rene Watson, 41, was arrested Thursday night at the Safety Building on a robbery charge for the holdup, as well as burglary of a home reported on Jan. 21. A third charge of disorderly conduct also was filed.

She was being held in the Lucas County jail on $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Toledo Municipal Court on Thursday.

Watson was a fugitive since Jan. 27 when she and a male companion allegedly took $280 from an employee of Liberty Tax Service, 3365 Monroe Street near Auburn Avenue.

The robbers escaped down an alley.

A store employee identified Watson of Macomber Street in Toledo to police as a customer whose taxes she had prepared several days earlier.

The suspect struck the clerk on the wrist with the curling iron, which she disguised with a dish rag, police said.
