1 hurt in U.S. 24 rollover crash

An 18-year-old from Whitehouse was injured Monday night in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 24 in the construction zone east of Waterville, authorities reported.

Joshua Coburn was taken to St. Luke's Hospital for treatment of his injuries, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Mr. Coburn was driving a 2002 Mazda Protege southwest-bound on U.S. 24 between Dutch and and Stitt Road in Monclova Township about 10:19 p.m. behind a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu being driven by Christopher A. Sharrit, 25, of Waterville, when the Malibu braked and Mr. Coburn struck the vehicle in the rear, according to the patrol's Toledo post.

Mr. Sharrit's vehicle struck the concrete barrier wall and rolled over, coming to rest on its top on the right shoulder of the roadway. Mr. Coburn's vehicle stopped a short distance down the road, the patrol reported.

Mr. Sharrit was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. Mr. Coburn, who also was wearing a seat belt, was extricated from his vehicle by Monclova Township Fire rescuers.

Drug use is suspected in the crash, and charges are pending for both drivers, according to the patrol.

Westbound U.S. 24 was closed for a brief period overnight for debris and vehicle removal.
