Sheriff calls case suspicious
5/7/2012BOWLING GREEN -- Wood County authorities are waiting for the autopsy results before issuing a ruling in the cause of death of a Bowling Green-area infant.
The 3-month-old boy died Saturday evening at Wood County Hospital after he was taken there from his home in Plain Township.
Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn said the baby's death is suspicious, although he declined to say why. Sheriff Wasylyshyn declined to comment more on the circumstances surrounding the baby's death, citing the investigation and the pending autopsy from the Lucas County Coroner's Office. No criminal charges have been filed, he said Sunday.
The sheriff also declined to release the child's name because he said he wanted to make sure the child's family was notified.
The case is at least the second suspicious death of a child in the Bowling Green area this year. On March 1, Emma Zehnpfennig, 2, died of severe head trauma. Authorities ruled the case a homicide. Bowling Green police said last month no arrest warrants have been issued.
Elsewhere in northwest Ohio, a Toledo man and woman were indicted on several charges, including murder, after the body of a baby presumed to be their son was found April 13 in a freezer in an East Toledo home.
An autopsy showed that the baby had been born alive and probably lived two days or less, authorities said.
