BOWLING GREEN -- The mother of a 3-month-old boy who died Saturday at his Plain Township home told a 911 operator that she had awakened from a nap when her husband found their child unresponsive.

"I just woke up from my nap and my husband found my baby vomited," she said, after dialing 911 at 5:50 p.m. "We're trying to resuscitate him. We can't get him to breathe, and I just woke up from my nap."

Carter Steinmiller, son of Brian and Rebecca Steinmiller, was pronounced dead at Wood County Hospital.

Wood County Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn said deputies and medical personnel found the baby's death suspicious. However, no charges have been filed in the case, the sheriff said.

"Charges will be forthcoming but not until we know exactly what the cause of death is," he said.

Detective Rod Smith said the child's parents were interviewed Saturday but have not spoken with investigators since then.

An autopsy was conducted by the Lucas County Coroner's Office, but Wood County Coroner Dr. Douglas Hess told investigators that the results may not be released for at least a week, Detective Smith said.
