An East Toledo girl rescued July 1 from her burning home died Friday in Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center.

Kaitlyn Pope, 7, and her parents, Cindy and George Pope, were unconscious when Toledo firefighters carried them from a first-floor bedroom at 702 Dover Pl.

Relatives disclosed that her death Friday was from injuries she suffered in the fire. She had been enrolled at Raymer Elementary School.

A 12-year-old boy escaped the blaze and told firefighters about the others still inside.

Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld, a Toledo Fire Department spokesman, said the girl and her parents were exposed to smoke and heat from the fire before they were pulled out of the house. The fire remains under investigation, but its cause is believed to have been accidental, he said.
