A Toledo man was seriously injured on Friday in an assault outside of a club near the University of Toledo, police said.

Jerrett Johnson, 30, was in serious condition at Toledo Hospital on Friday, a spokesman said.

A police officer wrote in a report that the victim was unconscious at the hospital early Friday and suffered life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses told police that Mr. Johnson was in the parking lot of the Ohio Player's Club, 2345 Dorr St., at 3:15 a.m. with his girlfriend when he got into a fight with a man who then knocked the victim to the ground.

Witnesses reported that four to six men punched and kicked the victim and hit him with metal folding chairs.

Police said the suspects fled the scene in an orange older-model Chevrolet sedan with "very large chrome rims," according to a police incident report.
