The owner of the Spitzer Building was arrested Tuesday on a bench warrant and is being held in Lucas County jail.

Toledo Municipal Judge C. Allen McConnell ordered the arrest of Koray Ergur on Jan. 8 after he failed to appear for a hearing in his courtroom for alleged fire code violations in the historic buiding.

He is being held in the jail in lieu of $15,000 bond.

Mr. Ergur entered a no contest plea on March 27 to the misdemeanor offense in Toledo Housing Court, but later asked the judge to vacate the plea, which he did. Judge McConnell scheduled a new trial date for March 1.

Mr. Ergur is the head of the private equity group that owns both the Spitzer and the adjacent Nicholas buildings. Foreclosure actions on both historic buildings have been taken against Mr. Ergur in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.
