A loaded handgun was found in a student's sweatshirt at Raymer Elementary School today, Toledo police said.

The 15-year-old 8th grade student is being held at the Lucas County juvenile detention center. He is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, underage purchase of a firearm, possession of a defaced weapon, conveyance of a deadly weapon into a school zone, and safe-school.

Just before dismissal, at 2:20 p.m., the school's assistant principal was helping a student look for a missing jacket when she moved other outerwear and felt the weapon in a sweatshirt pocket, according to police and Toledo Public School officials.

The student reportedly told police he purchased the loaded .380-caliber handgun from somebody on the street.

Patty Mazur, TPS spokesman, said no threats were made at the school and the student did not fight with authorities.

The school's principal did an "all-call" alert to parents of Raymer students informing them of the gun on campus.
