A fire that damaged a vacant West Toledo house is being investigated as suspicious, a Toledo fire battalion chief said.

The blaze was reported about 8:15 p.m. at 3257 Cherokee Rd. near Secor Road. Heavy flames from the one-story structure greeted arriving firefighters, battalion Chief David Hitt said.

The fire started in the living room, said Chief HItt, who estimated the loss at $20,000. He said the rear of the house was not damaged. The cause is under investigation.

The Lucas County auditor's online database lists the owner as Landis Burmeister, whose mailing address is given as the house on Cherokee.
