Tennessee man charged with trafficking in narcotics

A Tennessee man remained jailed Friday after drugs worth an estimated $17,000 allegedly were found in his vehicle after he was stopped by authorities on I-75 near Rossford.

Brandon Hackett, 27, of Chattanooga is charged with two counts of trafficking in oxycodone and possession of oxycodone, trafficking and possession of oxymorphone, possession of alprazolam, trafficking in alprazolam, five counts of trafficking in hydrocodone, and five counts of possession of hydrocodone.

He remained at the Wood County jail late Friday in lieu of $70,000 bond.

Troopers reported that the suspect was stopped for allegedly following too closely to another vehicle on I-75 in Rossford at 12:45 a.m. Monday.

A Rossford police drug-sniffing dog indicated drugs could be in the vehicle and a search found 372 hydrocodone pills, 149 alprazolam pills, 88 oxycodone pills, and 95 oxymorphone pills.

The drugs — 704 pills in all — are worth an estimated $17,000. If convicted, Mr. Hackett could face up to 45½ years in prison and up to a $92,500 fine.

Last week, two Detroit women were arrested after 989 oxycodone pills, worth an estimated $18,000, were allegedly found in their vehicle during a traffic stop on I-75 in Hancock County.

The women, Mahogany Dean, 37, and Tiffany Lindsey, 47, were lodged in the Hancock County jail and since have posted $30,000 bonds on one count each of drug abuse.

If convicted, each could face up to 21½ years in prison and up to a $25,000 fine.
