An East Toledo family was displaced today after a fire started in their half of a Third Street duplex.

Robert Davidson and his 5-year-old daughter, Katie Davidson, were home about 2 p.m. when Mr. Davidson said he heard a "pop."

"I didn't think anything of it and then I was overwhelmed by smoke," he said as he watched Toledo firefighters walk in and out of the home where he has lived for more than a year.

It's not clear yet what started the fire at 227 Third. Mr. Davidson and his daughter were both unharmed, though Mr. Davidson was visibly shaken.

The two-story structure was built in 1892 and is owned by Freda Beltran, according to records from the Lucas County auditor's Web site.

Red Cross was called to provide assistance for two adults and four children.
