OTTAWA LAKE -- A 16-year-old former student at Whiteford Agricultural Schools was arrested today for allegedly making threats to blow up school buildings.

The youth's name was not released. He was to be arraigned today.

The Whiteford schools were locked down for several hours early in the day in response to the threats, until the suspect was taken into custody.

Debbie Iott, an administrative assistant with the school district, said doors to the high school and elementary building had been locked but that otherwise the school day was normal.

The youth reportedly made threats out loud to blow up the buildings. An investigation revealed that the youth had no immediate means to carry out the threat, Monroe County sheriff's deputies said.

Authorities could not be reached for additional details.
