A Toledo man accused of robbing a uniform store was arrested today and booked into the Lucas County jail.

Frederick Smith, Jr., 37, of 2001 Perth St., is charged with one count of aggravated robbery for allegedly robbing Life Uniform, 1357 S. Byrne Rd., Saturday afternoon.

Police reported that a man went into the South Toledo store just before 2:50 p.m. and was asking an employee about maternity clothes for his girlfriend. The man was friendly, the employee told police, until she processed his purchase -- a total of $7 -- when the suspect demanded all of the cash in the drawer.

The employee asked the man if he was serious, so he pulled out a gun and pointed it at the clerk, according to a police report.

Fearing for her safety, the clerk opened the register allowing the man to grab the cash with a hand that was covered with either a sock or mitten.

The man then fled through the front door.

Police crews spotted the suspect today and arrested him.

He is to be arraigned Tuesday in Toledo Municipal Court.
