Boy struck by van in downtown Toledo

A boy, who is about 10 years old, was struck by a van in downtown Toledo on his way to school today, authorities said.

The boy, whose name was not released, was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, Toledo police said.

The boy stepped out of a car that had stopped in the left turn lane on northbound North Summit Street at Jefferson Avenue about 7:55 a.m. when he was struck by the van, which was driving south on Summit, police said.

The boy, who is in the fourth grade, was being dropped off by his mother on his way to Horizon Science Academy near by, according to police.

The crash remained under investigation. There was no word of charges.
