Fire officials: Gas leak caused house explosion

4/27/2013

Toledo fire officials confirmed that a gas leak caused a house in North Toledo to explode Thursday, but are still investigating the specific cause.

The explosion at 1448 N. Huron St. destroyed the home, valued at $40,000. Capt. John Kaminski from Toledo Fire and Rescue said the department expects to determine what caused the leak in the next few days.

Before the house collapsed, several neighbors told The Blade they saw someone running from the home carrying a hot-water tank. The property is owned by North River Homes, which is part of a United North tax-credit housing project.

The house had been vacant for a week and a half.
