Two children, about 1 and 2 years old, were being treated at a local hospital tonight for injuries after authorities believe they were grazed by bullets shot into a courtyard at the Greenbelt Place apartments.

The children, who were transported by ambulance to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, did not appear to have life threatening injuries, a Toledo Police officer said. Conditions for the two children were not immediately available tonight.

Toledo police were called to the apartment complex, 806 Cherry St., on the report of a person shot at about 8 p.m. They said they believe the children were grazed by bullets as they sat on an outdoor patio courtyard area. No one else was injured.

Sgt. Diane Chandler said witnesses informed officers that shots might have been fired from a vehicle.

"They said people pulled up and fired a few shots," she said, adding that witnesses were not able to give officers a good description of the driver or the vehicle.

Police said they found shell casings at the scene. Police were continuing to investigate. While many neighbors stood by and looked out their windows, officers searched the grass area in front of the complex with flashlights, for more evidence.
