Man dead after Lenawee Co. house fire

TECUMSEH -- A 27-year-old man was killed in a house fire Wednesday night in Lenawee County's Raisin Township northwest of Tecumseh, authorities said.

Jonathon Schmidt, of 29 Crofton Court, was taken to ProMedica Bixby Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Lenawee County Sheriff's Office.

The fire at the Crofton Court address was reported about 11 p.m.,  Lt. Jeff Ewald, of the sheriff's office said. Area fire crews arrived a short time later and pulled Mr. Schmidt out of the burning house, Lieutenant Ewald said.

The fire started in the basement of the house, the lieutenant said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Tecumseh is about 40 miles northwest of Toledo
