Fremont man dies after his motorcycle, tractor-trailer collide on Ohio Turnpike

FREMONT - A Fremont man died today when the motorcycle he was operating collided with a tractor-trailer on the Ohio Turnpike at the Fremont toll exit, the Milan Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol is reporting.

Douglas Rhoades, 33, of Fremont, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred near milepost 91 in Sandusky Township. Troopers said that at about 5:30 p.m. Mr. Rhoades was traveling eastbound on a 2002 Honda Goldwing motorcycle and exiting at gate 91, when the motorcycle crossed over a concrete divider strip onto the westbound entrance ramp and struck the trailer of westbound semi.

Roger Tooley, 56, of Kent, Ohio, was driving the tractor-trailer.He was not injured in the collision, troopers said.

Mr. Rhoades was wearing a helmet, authorities said.

Portions of the turnpike in Sandusky County are currently undergoing ramp and bridge construction.

The crash remains under investigation.
