School bus driver, 5 students injured in Monroe crash

MONROE -- A school bus driver and five students on their way to Manor Elementary School sustained minor injuries today when their bus collided with a car shortly before 8:30 a.m.

The incident occurred on St. Anne Drive, east of Avenue de Lafayette, in the Frenchmen's Bend subdivision in Monroe, Bobb Vergiels, Monroe Public Schools spokesman, said.

The injured were taken to Mercy-Memorial Hospital. The 21 other students on the bus were taken to their school and reunited with parents. The crash is under investigation by Monroe police.
