The Perrysburg City Council approved 4-1 in favor of the Perrysburg Police to receive new bulletproof vests through a U.S. Department of Justice grant that will pay for half of the cost.

Each vest costs about $775. The other half of the price will come out of the city’s general fund.

Todd Grayson was the only council member who voted against pursuing the grant. He is in support of bulletproof vests for officers, though.

“I believe bulletproof vests are good for the safety of our officers,” he said. “But I think it is the job of local taxpayers to pay for it, not federal, so I will vote no.”
