MONROE — Two bodies recovered at Estral Beach in Monroe County near the Canadian border Thursday were identified as boaters who had been reported missing, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

The U.S. Coast Guard in Detroit identified the bodies as Godfriend McKinney, 54, of Southfield and Kendrick Covington, 64, of Detroit, who were reported missing early Thursday. Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone said the bodies were found about 11 a.m.

The men were last seen about 9 a.m. Wednesday as they left to go fishing on a 14-foot beige and white jon boat launched from the Front Street ramp in Monroe, where Mr. McKinney’s truck and boat trailer were found, the U.S. Coast Guard reported.
