Oregon will begin billing insurance companies, Medicare, and Medicaid for emergency medical runs.

The policy, known as “soft billing,” was adopted 7-0 by city council at its regular meeting last week. The billing will be done by an outside company, Medicount Management Inc. Individuals will not be billed.

Officials studied EMS billing for months, and believe it could generate annual revenue of $250,000 for Oregon.
