The spokesman for the Toledo Fire Department was hospitalized Wednesday after a two-vehicle crash near downtown.

Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld was turning onto Cherry Street from Erie Street at 12:05 p.m., responding to an emergency situation, when his vehicle was struck by another vehicle, police Sgt. Joe Heffernan said.

The driver of the second vehicle, Cynthia Booth of Petersburg, Mich., was cited for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, Sergeant Heffernan said.

Lieutenant Hertzfeld was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, where information about his condition was not available. Sergeant Heffernan said the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Ms. Booth had “no visible injuries,” Sergeant Heffernan said.
