Oregon checkpoint yields 3 weekend arrests

Three drivers were arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs and seven were cited for license violations during a sobriety checkpoint late Saturday and early Sunday on Navarre Avenue, Oregon police reported.

Of 656 vehicles that entered the checkpoint in the 2800 block of Navarre between 10 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday, 43 were diverted for further inspection. Along with the three arrests for operating a vehicle under the influence, five drivers were cited for operating with suspended licenses and two had no license at all, police said. It was not reported if any of the improperly licensed drivers were also among the OVI arrests.

The three arrested for OVI had an average blood-alcohol content of 0.228, nearly three times the legal limit for intoxication, according to the report.

Five people were cited for seat-belt or child-safety violations, five miscellaneous citations were issued, and two people were issued court summons for outstanding warrants. Four vehicles were towed away from the checkpoint, which was staffed by Oregon and University of Toledo police and Lucas County Sheriff's deputies through the Lucas County OVI Task Force.
