Monroe motorcyclist killed in crash with SUV

MONROE -- A Monroe man was killed when a motorcycle he was driving collided with a sport utility vehicle on Vivian Road in Frenchtown Township early today, authorities said.

Mark Yount, 49, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. Mr. Yount was wearing a helmet, sheriff's deputies said.

Mr. Yount was driving north on Vivian, about a half-mile south of Nadeau Road, at 5:50 a.m. when an SUV driven by Garrett Lawson,17, also of Monroe, who was driving south on Vivian,went left of center and into the path of the motorcycle, deputies said.

The teen was taken to Oakwood Southshore Medical Center, Trenton, Mich., according to the sheriff's office. He was treated and released, a hospital spokesman said.

Deputies did not say whether young Lawson was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

There was no word of charges. The crash remains under investigation.
