Toledo police identified Aaron Vaughn, 33, and Mannoleto Gilmore, 17, as the victims in two separate South Toledo shootings late Wednesday.

Police said Mr. Vaughn was apparently shot by someone who was trying to rob him while the teen was shot in what appeared to be a drive-by shooting.

Mr. Vaughn, who was shot in his arm and chest, was taken to the University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio Hospital, and was expected to survive, Toledo police said. His condition was not released.

Young Gilmore, who was shot in his arm, was also taken to UTMC, where he was treated and released, Toledo police said.

Police said officers responding to a report of a person shot at Lot 109 at 3019 Nebraska Ave. arrived about 10:30 p.m. and found Mr. Vaughn on the ground outside his mobile home.

Witness reports indicate that two unknown men with bandannas over their faces and armed with handguns kicked in a screen door and yelled, "Give it up!" A fight between the victim and the assailants ensued, ending with the shooting, at which time the assailants fled, police said.

The suspects were described as black, in their early 20s, and about 5 feet, 9 inches tall. One of them was of thin build and the other was heavier, about 250 pounds.

The second shooting happened about 11 p.m. in the 800 block of Byrneport Drive, police said.

While responding to the shooting, police saw a vehicle fleeing the scene. A short pursuit ensued, ending with the arrest of a suspect, police said. Charges are pending against the suspect.

The victim told police he and his girlfriend were walking across a parking lot when when unknown men or teenage boys said something about the victim "being a Blood" and then he heard gunshots and realized he was struck with a bullet.

Bloods is a gang term.

The incidents remained under investigation.
