Toledoan wounded in downtown shooting, alleged shooter arrested

A Toledo man was shot early today when a crowd was leaving a downtown club, and police charged the alleged shooter with felonious assault.

Sgt. Joe Heffernan, Toledo police spokesman, said Miguel Garcia was shot in the ankle and transported to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center. Sergeant Heffernan said a disturbance broke out at the Club Ellyzees, 319 N. Superior St., as patrons were leaving the club about 2:30 a.m. A disturbance followed by an angry verbal exchange resulted in gunfire. Witnesses said the gunman fired toward a crowd, wounding Mr. Garcia.

Police arrested Gregory Burgess of Toledo, the alleged shooter, and charged him with felonious assault.
