MONROEVILLE, Ohio — Three people were severely injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday in Erie County’s Groton Township, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Janet Wahl, 61, of Castalia, Ohio, was flown to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, where she was listed in serious condition after the 11:53 a.m. collision at State Rt. 99 and Strecker Road about 5 miles north of Monroeville, troopers said.

Ms. Wahl was driving a 2012 Ford Fusion eastbound on Strecker when she failed to yield for the stop sign at State Rt. 99 and struck a 2002 Volkswagen Beetle driven by Hayden Coey, 17, of Greenwich, Ohio, troopers said.

Hayden and his passenger, Lisa Coey, 39, were transported to Bellevue Hospital with “incapacitating injuries,” according to the the highway patrol. No additional details were available from the hospital about their conditions.

The crash remains under investigation, but troopers said neither alcohol nor drugs appears to be a factor in the crash. All three people were wearing seat belts, troopers added.

No additional details were available from the hospital about the conditions of the patients.
