Lucas County 4th in Ohio in holiday highway incidents


Lucas County was the fourth busiest for Ohio Highway Patrol troopers who worked the Fourth of July holiday.

From midnight Wednesday until 11:59 p.m. Thursday, troopers responded to 978 incidents in Lucas County, which trailed Franklin (1,909), Cuyahoga (1,257), and Lorain (1,086) counties.

In the hundreds of Lucas County stops, troopers investigated six crashes, made 17 arrests for drunken driving, and issued 41 driving-under-suspension citations, 84 aggressive-driving citations, 193 safety-belt citations, and 350 traffic violation warnings.

Two people were arrested on felony charges, two more on felony warrants, and four drug arrests were made.

Troopers managed to keep busy elsewhere in northwest Ohio, making 253 stops in Fulton County, 140 stops in Ottawa County, and 383 in Wood County.

In Fulton and Wood counties, troopers reported three crash investigations each. None were reported in Ottawa County.

Four people were killed in traffic crashes statewide, but none in northern Ohio.

Overall, troopers made 29,441 traffic stops, 282 arrests for impaired driving, and issued 1,745 aggressive-driving citations.
