A Toledo man was being held in the Lucas County jail Thursday night, accused of slamming a toddler into the ground.

Walter Johnson, 32, of 1215 Peck St., is charged with child abuse. During a Thursday morning arraignment in Toledo Municipal Court, he was ordered to be held in lieu of $250,000.

Police allege that the girl, 2, was sitting unbuckled in a car seat Tuesday at 2299 Kent St. when the suspect picked up the seat and threw it, causing the girl to fall out.

She was admitted to a local hospital, police said.

In an unrelated incident Wednesday evening, police were called to a North Toledo apartment after a child fell out of a second-story window. According to a police, the 1-year-old woke up from a nap in a second-floor bedroom at 730 Walnut St. and crawled through an open window.

Lucas County Children Services is investigating.
