Defiance woman killed in two-vehicle accident in Tiffin Township

DEFIANCE - A Defiance woman died today when authorities say she failed to yield and her car was broadsided by a pickup truck at the intersection of Banner School and Carpenter roads in Tiffin Township.

Janice Thompson, 62, of 700 Ralston Ave., was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, which occurred at about 10:45 a.m., the Ohio Highway Patrol has reported.

Troopers report that Edward C. Osborn, 74, of 21983 Switzer Rd., was traveling westbound on Banner School Road in a 2011 GMC pickup,, when Ms. Thompson, who was driving a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am southbound on Carpenter, failed to stop at the intersection and was broadsided by Mr. Osborn's vehicle. 

A juvenile passenger in Ms. Thompson's car was flown to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, troopers reported. The juvenile's name and age was not available.

Mr. Osborn and an unidentified passenger in his car were transported to Defiance Regional Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.
