SANDUSKY — A Perkins Township police cruiser was involved in a collision Sunday when a car the police officer was passing on Columbus Avenue turned into the patrol car, sending both vehicles off the road and into a yard, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

The accident occurred on Columbus near London Road shortly before 3 p.m.

Troopers said the patrol car, driven by Sgt. Jeff Musser, was southbound on Columbus with its lights and siren when Mark Weikle, 50, Sandusky, tried to turn left into a private drive and collided with Sergeant Musser.

The police officer was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky where he was treated and released.

Mr. Weikle, who troopers said was not wearing a seatbelt, was also taken to Firelands for a possible broken leg.

No citations were issued, but the crash remained under investigation.
