NEY, Ohio -- Two men were thrown from their motorcycle and injured seriously after they struck a large piece of concrete on the Bend Road north of Scott Road in Defiance County's Washington Township.

Troopers at the Defiance post of the Ohio Highway Patrol said it was unknown how the concrete got on the roadway. After the motorcycle hit the object, it slid, ejecting Joseph Kroeckel, 55, and his passenger, Jerald Kroeckel, 24, both of Defiance. Neither man wore a helmet.

The crash was reported about 7:20 p.m.

The elder Mr. Kroeckel was taken by medical helicopter to Toledo Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. The younger Mr. Kroeckel was taken by rescue squad to Bryan Hospital with what appeared to be serious injuries, troopers said. Their conditions were not available.

Troopers continue to investigate the crash.

Ney is 50 miles southwest of Toledo.
