Suspect in slaying rejects deal

A Toledo man charged in the Oct. 5 shooting death of Jonathan Morris in East Toledo’s Ravine Park Village turned down a plea agreement on Friday that would have sent him to prison for 11 years for involuntary manslaughter.

Jonathon Johnson, 23, of 1657 Vance St., could face up to life in prison if convicted of aggravated murder. Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Frederick McDonald reset his trial for Aug. 26 and dismissed a charge of obstructing justice at the prosecutor’s request.

Johnson is charged with aggravated murder, murder, aggravated robbery, felonious assault, carrying a concealed weapon, and illegal possession of a firearm.

He will be tried separately on charges of escape and trespass in a habitation that stemmed from an attempt to flee sheriff’s deputies on March 30 after being taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center.
