29-year-old Toledo man found fatally shot on Potomac Drive

Authorities called to a shooting found a 29-year-old man dead Sunday night in the front yard of an apartment building at Potomac Drive and Fernwood Avenue in central Toledo.

Investigators said Rudy Staples, Jr., may have been struck by two bullets and appeared to have wounds to his neck and side.

His body was found about 10 p.m. in front of 1506 Potomac, and Toledo Police said he was believed to have lived in the multiunit building.

No suspects were in custody.

Lt. Jay Pachell said Mr. Staples' girlfriend was being questioned as a witness.

The shooting investigation drew an emotional crowd of about 100 people outside the building. Mr. Staples' mother fainted several times near the area cordoned off by police and was taken by ambulance to a hospital. 

The slaying is Toledo's 16th homicide in 2013.
