A Toledo man accused of raping a young girl remained in a Kentucky jail Saturday, pending extradition to Ohio.

Robert Tibbits, 37, of 3637 Revere Dr., is charged in Lucas County Common Pleas Court with two counts of rape.

Mr. Tibbits, who was indicted July 12, was arrested with his girlfriend in Owensboro, Ky., near the Ohio River across from Indiana, about 10:30 p.m. Thursday, said Deputy U.S. Marshal Rodney Hartzell.

The suspect told officials he planned to turn himself in, but he didn’t.

Perrysburg Township police on Thursday had passed along information to the marshals that they could find the suspect in an Owensboro trailer.

Local police and marshals in Kentucky, with tracking dogs, surrounded the trailer Thursday night, forcing Mr. Tibbits from the trailer.

He was arrested without further incident and was booked into the Daviess County jail.

Mr. Tibbits’ girlfriend, Megan Shute, was arrested on Toledo warrants.
