MONROE — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents to phone solicitors who are falsely identifying themselves as sheriff’s deputies.

Sheriff Dale Malone received several complaints last week about callers who introduce themselves as deputies raising money for the Drug Abuse Resistance Education, or DARE program, according to a departmental statement.

No deputies from his office are affiliated with the solicitors, who, in turn, are not affiliated with the sheriff’s office or the Monroe County DARE Board, the sheriff said.
