Toledoan charged with child endangering

11-month-old son fell out of window, broke leg

A Toledo man who was supposed to be watching his 11-month-old son when the boy fell out of a window was arraigned today.

Tracy Smith, 19, of 243 Palmer St., is charged with child endangering. He was ordered to remain in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.

According to court documents, Mr. Smith was watching the toddler July 10, at 730 Walnut St. in North Toledo, when the teenaged father dozed off. The boy climbed through an open second-story window and fell, breaking a leg.

Mr. Smith is due back in court Aug. 6.

Lucas County Children Services spokesman Julie Malkin said the agency is working with the family, but could not provide additional information.
